Focus on plastic pollution in oceans

8 million tons of plastic waste ends up in our oceans each year. This is the equivalent of the discharge of one waste collection bin per minute. Plastic waste takes several thousands of years to decompose.
Microplastics kill marine animals and destroy their natural environment. They disrupt fishing activity as well as maritime and tourism business.
These microplastics are often consumed by fish and marine life, which is how their find their way along the human food chain. Their impact on human health is yet to be thoroughly evaluated.
Altereo provides support to public authorities to manage this scourge.
