Training Program for SMEs of the Public Works sector: Maintenance of Water Networks (countries: Djibouti, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Senegal, Botswana, Zambia)


A 100% capacity building mission focused on water utilities and local SMEs capacity building to offer subcontracting and develop business in the sector

 

Context


CDE is an ACP/EU joint institution created in the framework of the Cotonou Agreement. It’s financial resources mainly come from the European Development Fund (EDF). Its objective is to ensure the development of professional ACP enterprises operating in the private sector. CDE operates complementarily with the European Commission, the Secretariat of the ACP Group of States and the European Investment Bank in the framework of support to the private sector.

 

Project Description


This program helped 50 SMEs of the public works and hydraulics sector in the target areas. It aimed to help them acquire skills and technologies for the maintenance of water networks, and plan their development in this new business area. The project itself consisted of 5 phases:

  • Analysis of the operators and identification of SMEs concerned by the program
  • Technical diagnosis of water supply facilities and network operation
  • Development of the training modules
  • Strengthening of the SME’s abilities
  • Support for the establishment of the business plans in order to acquire the technologies of maintenance
